Church of St. John the Baptist (Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista)

Address: Piazza Chiesa, 1, 14030 Cerro Tanaro AT, Italia

The most important monument is definitely the parish church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

It was built in the 16th and 17th centuries as a result of the increased population, on a pre-existing 12th-century chapel dedicated to the same saint.

It was once dependent on the Abbey of Pomposa.

The bell tower underwent alterations during the 18th century.

The weather vane at the top bears an engraved date: 1754.

Inside, the following are worth admiring: the high altar and the altar of the Sacred Heart both in scagliola and signed by Francesco Solari in 1760 and 1761 respectively; the 19th-century painting of the Sacred Heart; and the balustrade and holy water stoup from the 18th century.

Beautiful is the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary dating from the second half of the 1700s.

Also valuable is the organ signed Liborio Grisanti 1763, recently restored under the supervision of the organ commission of the Superintendent of Artistic and Historical Heritage of Piedmont.

A large canvas from the 1600s, placed in the chancel, depicts the Madonna and Child with Saints.

The church decoration dates from 1896 and is signed by painter Giulio Musso.
